The Beaches
Bounded by Victoria Park Avenue to the east, Lake Ontario to the south, Woodbine Avenue to the west and Kingston Road to the north.
A lakeside village in the east end, built around a boardwalk and four sandy beaches.
Queen Street East runs through the heart of the Beaches, lined with independent shops, cafés and restaurants. The boardwalk along the water — from Woodbine Park east to the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant — draws cyclists, joggers and dog walkers year-round, and the four beaches (Woodbine, Kew, Balmy and Scarborough) fill up all summer.
Most streets are lined with semi-detached Victorian and Edwardian homes, with a handful of low-rise apartments and row houses mixed in. Good parks and schools make it one of the east end's favourite neighbourhoods for families — and it's the area I know best, working out of the office on Queen Street East.
